Prof. Dr. Kocadaş was born in Samsun. He completed his primary and secondary education in Samsun. He graduated from the Department of Sociology at İnönü University in 1993. He received his master's degree from the Department of Sociology at İnönü University, Department of Sociology, Department of General Sociology and Methodology in 1996 with a thesis titled "Analysis of the Effects of Mass Media on Political Institutions" and his doctorate on "Visual Media and Culture of Violence" (Secondary Education) in the same department in 2003. He completed his doctorate with his thesis titled "The Effect of Visual Media on Youth Violence Tendency -Malatya Province-".

On March 21, 1994, he worked as a Research Assistant and Res. Assistant Dr. in the Division of General Sociology and Methodology in the Sociology Department at İnönü University. On January 31, 2007, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Education at Adıyaman University. In September 2007, he founded the Sociology Department in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Adıyaman University and pioneered the establishment of the Departments of Philosophy, Psychology, and English Language and Literature in the same faculty, and served as the founding department head. Between 2007 and 2011, he held administrative positions such as Vice Dean at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (4.5 years), advisor to the rector (5 years), director of the Addiction Control Application and Research Center, which he founded (5 years), board member, member of faculty and institute boards, and head of the departments of general sociology and methodology and institutional sociology. He currently works as the Head of the Sociology Department, which he founded (for 19 years).

His fields of study include violence, suicide, social deviance and sociology of crime, sociology of institutions, drugs and drug addiction, sociology of communication, sociology of youth, history of sociology, history of Turkish sociology and research methods in sociology; he has numerous published books and book chapters (30), numerous articles (32) published in national and international journals, symposium proceedings (20), he is the coordinator of one BAP project and one KA220 project supported by the European Union, and he is an editor in many journals.
